Wheel Blades

Wheel Blades cost and weigh the same as wheelguards for the same vehicle, and have as many DP as wheelguards.   Wheel blades only protect against enemy fire on a 1 on a 1d6, but they act as a ramplate in sideswipes (adding 2 damage per die to the enemy and subtracting 1 per die from the damage to the vehicle) and automatically take damage first in sideswipes.  Additionally, the driver of a vehicle equipped with wheel blades may attempt to use the blades to target the tires (to hit: 9) of an enemy vehicle as part of a sideswipe attack, as long as the speeds of the two vehicles are within 10 mph of each other.   If the attack succeeds, all swipe damage is inflicted on one or both tires of the target vehicle and the blades take only 1 point of damage.

  1. In terms of damage to tires, I am tempted to suggest that the effects of wheel blades should be similar to those of spikes.

    I would recommend:
Tires that are in physical contact (during and possibly following a side-swipe) with the side of a vehicle equipped with wheel blades are affected as though they had crossed a spike counter (hit on 1-4 on 1d, 1d damage).
Tires that pass within 3/4″ of the side of a vehicle equipped with wheel blades are affected as though they had passed within 3/4″ of a spike counter (hit on a 1-2 on 1d, 1d damage).

In terms of damage to side armour, I’m happy with wheel blades acting as a ramplate, but I would also be happy to consider reducing the effects to +1 damage to the opponent, or even elimiating them entirely. (In the end, I don’t see why there shouldn’t just be side-mounted ramplates. Let them do the job).

In terms of absorbing damage, I’m more skeptical. The accessory pictured above (which I LOVE!) doesn’t look like it would ever protect the wheel from damage. And if its effects are less than immediately fatal, why not let it stick around for the whole battle?

Wheel-blades. $20 and 8 lbs. per point of armour, maximum 40 lbs. Wheel blades are klnd of armoured hub specially modified to damage other car tires. They protect tires and can be hit just as normal armoured hubs (shots from the side hit the blades on a 1-2). In a sideswipe, the wheelblades will take damage before the side armour on a 1-2, but in this case the other vehicle automatically takes an extra die of damage from the swipe.
